Start with what changes for each role
A Maximo Application Suite upgrade can introduce changes to the experience around familiar work. The relevant scope depends on the version, applications, entitlements, configuration, and processes in your environment.
Build a role-by-role change map with your technical team. Describe what planners, technicians, supervisors, administrators, and reliability teams will need to do differently. Use that map to prioritize enablement instead of asking everyone to learn every feature.
Use representative workflows for training
Build learning around realistic tasks in an appropriate non-production environment. Include the normal path and the exceptions people are likely to encounter. Keep the examples aligned to the organization’s configuration.
For mobile users, include device access, field workflow, synchronization behavior where applicable, and routes to assistance. Validate exercises with the technical team so guidance matches the deployed version and operating conditions.
Plan the post-go-live support rhythm
Name the people who will answer process questions, maintain learning assets, and collect user feedback. Give local champions a clear role and a practical route to escalate issues.
After go-live, look for patterns: repeated questions, avoided workflows, and work moving into side channels. Separate technical defects from process confusion and learning gaps so each reaches the right owner.
Keep new-user onboarding connected to the upgrade
The upgrade should leave behind more than a launch event. Update new-user learning paths, quick-reference guides, and role-specific documentation. Assign review dates and owners.
Treat Application Point utilization and capability planning as a joint discussion with application owners and licensing specialists. Verify decisions against current IBM terms and your agreement; adoption planning does not replace entitlement advice.
